Biography:
Tommy Ramone, born Erdelyi Tamás in Budapest, Hungary, on January 29, 1949, was the drummer and last surviving original member of the influential punk rock band the Ramones.
Originally the band's manager, Tommy stepped in as drummer when the other members struggled to find a suitable musician. His fast, minimalist drumming style became a defining characteristic of the Ramones' sound.
He played on and co-produced their first three albums, Ramones, Leave Home, and Rocket to Russia, which are considered foundational to the punk rock genre. He also co-produced their fourth album, Road to Ruin.
Tommy left the band in 1978 to pursue other interests, primarily production work. However, he continued to work with the Ramones on occasion, including co-producing their 1984 album Too Tough to Die.
Beyond the Ramones, Tommy Ramone produced albums for artists such as the Replacements and Redd Kross. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Ramones in 2002. Tommy Ramone died of bile duct cancer on July 11, 2014.
